Could these dimples be caused by vertical von Karman vortices? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kármán_vortex_street
Perhaps a steady slow flow of wind on top of a thin layer of sublimated gas covering the surface creating small dimple sized vertical swirls ( waves rolling along versus tornadoes) allowing areas of lower pressure on the surface promoting sublimation? the linear organization or patterning could then be horizontal interference. http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/104778/how-can-a-wave-interfere-with-itself

Hi Mote. I'm not sure they're dimples. They look to me like embryonic spiders. Left/upper side of channel in sunlight, with right/lower side in shadow. 😦

Also note how linear they are over the length of the image ? young yardangs?~ Pete

Mote: In case you've not met yardangs yet, there's a blog post here. Cheers.
