#bluefan
Not sure if this is just a trick of the light or some kind of #frost.Posted
-
by mschwamb scientist, translator
I'm not sure but I think that's CO2 frost that we're seeing with the fan - very cool #frost

I found the answer for you Bright bluish: gas re- condensed on top of the ice as fine-grained bright frost

by peterj1969
it has a black fan so is there two jets or is it the light?
Posted
-
by Nickj74
Could this be an active jet casting a shadow from a low sun?

This is extremely beautiful.....it looks like ice

Is the black spot a hole or vent . It looks very isolated and flat
Posted
-
by AstroToy
Could the blue be diffraction of light from a sun low on the horizon?
Posted
-
by Angua
Beautiful
Posted
-
by hsn953
It seems like the black spot is a vent (hole) and the dark shadow is casted by the blueish rising fumes

Thought Mars was a dead and supposedly red planet? every other image has something exciting and colourful.
Posted

Thats amazing!
Posted

by Foxstar82
Thats is stunning
Posted

that looks beautiful. would love to one day stand next to that.
unless its some kind of deadly hot or freezing gas. but none the less.

If the sun is low on the horizon wouldn't it be refracted red? Could it be water vapour?

Cool, blue. Hey, isn't Mars suppose to be red?!?

many of the colors are not trustworthy in terms of how the human eye would see it.colors r being stretched to maximize information visible.

That is just fabulous!!!! What on earth can that be??? Or what on Mars rather (hohoho 😉)

Is a more advanced Rover, I mean, it looks like it has a better scanner... but where did it come from 😃
Posted

could it be a Mar's rainbow, the dark shadow. Not really a shadow proper but a figament of light fractions ?

It looks alike a whole in surface and smoke coming out of this. Sun light passing through the smoke and creating a shadow.

by jamiel92
it seems to be of a gas state which is caught in a strong wind, spectacular image!
Posted
-
by wildman7744
this appears to be carbon dioxide frost. presumably a small part of the land (the black spot at the top of the cone) caved in, letting out
Posted
-
by wildman7744
some carbon dioxide which then froze in the cold climate of mars' poles. the chances are the wind was string though as you can see from
Posted
-
by wildman7744
the size of the cone, the Carbon dioxide went quite far
Posted
-
by wildman7744
before freezing
Posted
-
by UniqueSeeker
I have a theory, maybe? That this is carbon dioxide frost from a carbon dioxide ejection fanned due to wind during the ejection, however...
Posted
-
by UniqueSeeker
contd.... the ejection is still taking place and a long shadow is being formed due to it and a low sun. Could this be?

the color blue just means it become 'stronger' in the blue detector channel.which in turn usually means, more ice or more reflective ices.

Could it be some kind of blue gas just floating on the surface?
Posted
-
by Stu-Mc
looks like a blue gas, the only one that comes to mind could be ozone?
Posted
-
by rturner21
could it be ozone, which is a pale blue gas?
Posted
-
could it be copper sulphate crystals being forced out from vents in the ground????
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
Simon, don't take the colors too seriously, they are stretched for information content.

why is it blue?

very strange, what could have possibly caused such a shape and formation. its as if blasted from something

Rising vapor/dust "smoke column" & side illuminated, so casting shadow? Difficult to tell if fan is alligned with surface shadows.
Posted
-
definately fan shaped though
Posted
-
by LucyPlayford
I agree christopher, but what could have caused the sudden ghostly blue colour, is it a light refraction of a mineral?
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
no shadows here, no side views are possible. all observations are made from 'straight up'.
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
the blue color comes from either refrosted CO2 or cleaned CO2.it's always exactly where was a black fan before in time.so the fan ...
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
does something to the ice surface that makes it likely to have fresher looking ice there.fresher,or refurbished ice looks blue because ...
Posted

by michaelaye scientist
it becomes brighter in the blue wavelengths. (the only wavelengths where co2 is emitting in the visual ranges)

maybe melted #water ??

by bradb595
it could be a gas, thats why its casting the coloured shadow. argon and krypton are blue when gases
Posted
-
by Earthboy
could be a jet of water/ice
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
no shadow here, no side views, everything is recorded from straight up.the blue part is freshed-up/altered co2 ice surface....
Posted
-
by michaelaye scientist
bluer just means brighter in the blue wavelengths, which is the area where ice is reflecting.

by altafkaji
most likely argon?
