Northern Fans

  • wassock by wassock moderator

This is one of the latest crop of HiRise images showing a field of dunes at a latitude of 74. And lots of fans, iterestingly they all have the same squid/octopus feel to them as the one I've posted from the North in the past. Each set of fans shows lots of wind directions which probably explains the shape of the dunes. What is notable though is the pretty much all the fans eminate from the base of the dunes - and the left side 'elbow' seems very popular. The dunes are in the 100 - 200 meter range.

Hi Wassock. Superb images. Are those frosty boulders that I see scattered between the dunes? I note they do not occur on the dunes at all. Shadows appear to be visible on some, and the fan orgins seem to mostly have an associated 'boulder'.~Pete
