Updates to Talk

Hi,
We were able to get some info about the HiRISE images added on the Talk pages (example APF00003oa) You should now see the North Azimuth, Sub Solar Azimuth, Phase Angle, and Emission Angle. The North Azimuth and Sub Solar Azimuth help you tell which way the sun is coming from. We will try and get a blog post out soon describing how to use these values.
In the mean time, you can refer to this contents of this post on Talk by Michael for how to use Sub Solar Azimuth to figure out which way the Sun is coming from:
Hey all, so here's how you figure out the sun direction in general. On
the HiRISE image webpages all important observational parameters are
given in that Observation toolbox. [note and now on Talk]Concerning the sun direction, we call that azimuth in astronomy (at
least in some of the many coordinate systems possible), and the full
name here is sub-solar azimuth, in other words, in what direction of
the image is the point on the surface that lies directly under the
sun, i.e. sub-solar.Now, first one needs to take the right angle for the image product of
interest: both solar azimuths for map-projected and non-map-projected
images are provided. Now, how to apply that angle: 0 is defined as a straight line to the
right (= 3 o'clock), starting from the image center and increasing the
angles clock-wise.In this example, looking at a non-map-projected image, the solar
azimuth is given as 53.7 degrees, so starting from '3 o'clock, an
angle of approx 54 degrees is the well-known lower right that we have
in most of our images in Planet4.Cheers,
~Meg

That's great Meg, at risk of seeming to want jam on it, could we get the solar longitude on there as well?

Oh yeah. That's a winner. Well done team. (I'd also like some Ls jam on it please, better than those emissio-nangles). * 😉 *

Hiya,
I can ask nicely, but the development team has lots of higher priority items on the todo list for new Zooniverse projects they've just launched or are building right now. There's no development time left for Planet Four so we're in maintenance mode, but because they are awesome they add things to Planet Four when there is a free moment, so no promises when this will get added. I can definitely ask, but I will let you know when it appears.
Cheers,
~Meg

Hi,
Actually looks like we don't always record that value. We switched codes that upload the images. We have the acquisition date of the image that we could add. Best we can do without updating the database and more work for the development team than we need to do right now.
Cheers,
~Meg
