That's strange - I removed Janet's post then your one popped up from nowhere (posted 9 hours ago)?

I'm still practicing things. And I'm used to being able to delete my own topics, which doesn't work here. I'll leave it for a while. Call it an after-effect of listening to folks at the Zooniverse Workshop 2, and then just experimenting. 😃

I'm using Chrome in Windows7, and finding the "edit" button isn't working on my last response for editing. Hope you don't mind this.

Added: it didn't work on the last response I typed, but worked perfectly on this one. Probably my computer. Do you mind me just playing to learn the software for Talk? I have also dabbled at looking at Mars, but transcription seems to be more "me"

Hi Janet. I'm not on Chrome but do get the 'no edit' problem like yourself. It seems to me (but I might be wrong) that if you hit 'edit' within a couple of seconds of posting it works, but a few seconds too long and it doesn't. Moving to a different page then returning to your message seems to bring the 'edit' button into play.

Can't see anyone minding your little experiments on here. Nice to see you on the boards. Cheers.

Janet, this happens to me too. All you have to do is press F5 to refresh the page... works every time.

Same here with chrome for android will not let me edit until I refresh

I'm sending a ticket to Zooniverse support to see if they can take a look at the cause of the issue.

Glad to be welcome. Just testing this time to see how the "print" formatting of a forum thread will copy/paste here.

OK; no formatting problems, but all separator lines and spaces deleted.
Trying with lines and spaces added in NotePad:

Now that is totally WEIRD! all I added in NotePad were extra "enter" key spaces and 3 lines of dashes, each immediately after the now-formatted lines. I was meaning to differentiate between the different posts in the thread.

I absolutely need to get a tutorial from the PTB. 😕

Trying again. Same NotePad variation, but I copied the space/dash combo that appears when you use the divider line icon.

Now that worked. I still want to know how to put that bright pretty formatting in on purpose. 😃
Trying same again, this time trying to make the hyperlink active with spaces.

P.S. The rules of the word game are, the next word must start with the last 2 letters of the previous word. The http://www.geographic.org/geographic_names/ link is wonderful for finding something that starts with consonant combinations that are non-existant in English.

OK, that works. When the print format puts the hidden url to the link in (), I always have to add spaces between the brackets and the url. I'll play around more later.

For what it is worth, I have a way now of transferring threads from Forum to Talk/Discussion. Sort of. I'm seriously hoping I won't have to as it will be very cumbersome, but it is not hopeless. There is a "Print" option for each thread. I'm clicking that, and then copy/pasting the contents into Word. Then I have to do several things to recode it for Talk.

    1. Copy/Paste the whole print list into Word, and Clear out all formatting.
    2. Open Find/Replace (CRTL-H)
    3. Make the paragraph marks work: Find and Replace all the paragraph marks with two paragraph marks
    4. Insert a horizontal line between replies with Find/Replace: Find "^pTitle:" and replace it with "^p^p----------^p^pTitle:"
    5. Make the hyperlinks work: Find and Replace all "(http:" with "( http:".
    6. Mark quoted things as quotes: Find "Quote"; manually add ">" in front of every text line in the quote, leaving any intervening paragraph marks as is.
    7. Make inserted pictures work.
I haven't figured this last thing out yet. :-[

Hi Janet. I'm assuming Talk/Discussion means here, that is, Planet Four discussion boards. What is the 'Forum' you refer to and why would you want to transfer threads from one to the other? Perhaps I'm just being slow (not unusual) so you'll have to forgive me if I've missed something obvious. Cheers.

    Hiya,
I thought I'd jump in with some background information. Some of the older Zooniverse projects didn't launch with Talk they had traditional online forums. Talk is 2 years old invention of the Zooniverse. The developers built it from the ground up to further foster volunteer interaction and also make it easier for the science team to find things and comment on posts that would get lost in a traditional forum. Planet Hunters and Milky Way Project were the first projects to launch with Talk. Planet Four has version 2.0 of Talk, and is one of the first Zooniverse projects to get that upgrade. They were showing Talk 2.0 at the Zooniverse Project Workshop last week. I believe Janet was one of the volunteers invited to the Zooniverse Workshop. I believe she participates in Old Weather. and is a forum moderator there (please correct me if I've gotten any of that wrong, Janet). I believe the Zooniverse has plans to move all of the projects to Talk 2.0 at some point in the future.

    Cheers,

    ~Meg
