Location of images

  it would be nice to see where on the surface each image is located (Equator/NPole/SPole/Hemisphere etc).
  I'm surprised how much variation there is. I thought Mars was just a dust ball.

  All South pole images apparently. From the "About" section:

  All of the images on this site depict the southern polar region, an area of Mars that we know little about, and the majority of which have never been seen by human eyes before!

  And the season is from beginning of spring till late summer. This is when HiRISE is able to observe such high latitudes but also when most interesting things happen!
