Hi,
These do look like veins. They're actually carved by carbon dioxide gas rushing around trapped below a thawing cap of carbon dioxide ice. Before the gas breaks through the ice sheet by exploiting small cracks and weaknesses in the sheet, the trapped gas over centuries it is believed carves these channels in to the dirt. We refer to these as 'spiders.' You can learn more here.
