An unusual grey colouring on this blotch. Something new?

Hi Kith. I Note this is May 2007. Spotted these before, and have seen them tagged as 'drifts'. Personally, I at first wondered if it is surface starting to show through the ice cover, but over the last couple of years looking at them, that makes no more sense than 'drifts'. Seems to 'highlight' the depressions first, so that would be weird. Note that it seems to have affected a couple of channels down towards the bottom left corner, as well as some towards the top edge to the right of the main 'drift'. Dear old Mars throwing the 'less than obvious' at us again. 😃 . ~ Pete
