    So are there pre-existing circular depressions in the landscape which allow the formation of legs around them, or do some spiders form 'fat bodies'?

    Ooo ... Thanks JM. Good job and nice to see you. (For any newcomers, JM has rotated the image 180 degrees for easier viewing).

    This makes it a completely different kettle of spiders !! It now looks to me more like exaggerations in an already 'cracked' landscape, rather than a family of 'classic' spiders. There are indeed some spiderlike channels to be seen, but they don't all associate with a 'body'. Conversely, in the lower right quadrant of the image above, is a lovely round body with no legs at all (that I can see).

    Need to visit the HiRise catalogue. 😉
