Narrow deep canyon.

The ice in this image shows many polygonal plates, but in the upper right quadrant there is a colour change in which is a long apparently quite deep canyon on the surface running roughly N-S. is this likely to have formed on the surface, or by sublimation after which the ice has thinned? It seems narrower and deeper than the usual spider 'dendrites',
