Fans in different directions

I have come across many Fans but they all seem to go in the same general direction. This image clearly shows fans going in very different directions.

Keen eye. So what we think is happening is that the winds blow the material brought up by the escaping carbon dioxide gas from the geyser. So if the wind changes direction then you'll see fans pointing in different directions originating from the same spot. Maybe we should make a hashtag for them how about #doublefan ?

Hi. Lots of disscussion around this type of 'happening'. It starts here;
http://talk.planetfour.org/#/boards/BPF0000002/discussions/DPF00007op
But it needed to divide into two areas, so 2nd thread is here;
http://talk.planetfour.org/#/boards/BPF0000002/discussions/DPF00007z5
Then 'boulders' needed to be centre stage, hence this;

I know 'coming in late' means there's a bit of reading to catch up on, but there is some good stuff in these discussions. OK, we get bogged down sometimes, we lose the plot, but there's a lot of good stuff in between. Lots to learn and often lots to smile about.
Good Luck with your Planet Four investigations.

Hmmm...... Lost my 'edit' button.
At one point in the discussion we thought that there may be a sort of stop/start mechanism going on. So the vent blows and the plume goes up and, if the winds blowing, it makes a fan. Then we wondered if the vent was 'plugged' so that more gas could build up and a second (third?) plume bursts through. By now though, the wind has changed direction, so the plume lands in a different place.
Or it may be something completely different......... 😃

Thanks for all that kith. I therefore assume that the fan in this image has been very active then? If each time it vents and a wind is blowing and in a different direction, most other fans I've seen would be the same unless they were far less active. I have come across a couple more fans similar to this one but they are far and few between.

They do seem a bit rare, I agree. I'm collecting them and, with the one I 'pinched' off you here I've got seven. Help yourself to my collection if there's any you ain't got: http://talk.planetfour.org/#/collections/CPFS000141
This is what makes these 'Killer Fans' so darned interesting, I think. Do they stop, and start again after a change in wind direction? Is this an area where the wind is able to dramatically, and suddenly, change direction? Maybe we'll find out......
