  It looks too sharp for a fan, I think, it's a strong shadow (the surface goes sharp down to the left of the image after the separation line)

  Something similar here http://talk.planetfour.org/#/boards/BPF0000002/discussions/DPF00004mb but with a more uneven edge. The image above lis lighter in the bottomleft corner which tends towards suggesting a fan shape - can you find the bigger picture to see what the shape of the whole thing is?

  I think I know where these images come from, there is a set of ridges and here you are looking at the top of one of them
