I'm only just getting into this scientific stuff but does anyone else think that this picture looks like a large body of frozen crystal clear liquid?

that's almost exactly what we believe, apart from that we know it's CO2, and that's not liquid in the conditions on Mars. It's more than 90% of the atmosphere on Mars, and because it's cold enough on Mars, it just freezes out of the atmosphere. And this image, we believe is very comparable to things like this http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RAlP3BmEW1Q/TQX5VRh2iGI/AAAAAAAACPQ/HtkI2LrztA0/s1600/The-best-top-winter-desktop-wallpapers-1.jpg
