The white color seems to be a consequence of those surfaces being more reflective. There's a possible explanation in the discussion for the object http://talk.planetfour.org/#/boards/BPF0000002/discussions/DPF00000yu
When an ice surface get's more reflective, than it becomes bluer in
color images, how much bluer or whiter, depends a bit on how
'interesting' are the other color channels. THis is because every
image is stretched a lot to maximize the visibility for differences in
the image, and not necessarily to make it look exactly like it would
be visible for human eyes.Posted
