I notice six different bursts of gas through the ground, and fan shapes towards the right.

What is the reason for some fans to be larger then other fans?

Hi Stath.
When the gas and dust break through the icelayer, the cracks and vents will probably be different sizes. Large cracks will allow more dust to escape more quickly forming bigger blotches. It's also possible that cracks appear on different days when the wind is blowing at different strengths and/or in different directions and this will form fans of different sizes.
