Drifting Black Spots

There is definitely something coming out of the ground in this area and it is black. The wind appears to be carrying it from the bottom to top in this picture. What black substance comes out of the ground in mist or powder form?

Hi Michael. If you look at the various blogs and info on the P4 site ( go to 'classify'. On the left side menu go to 'blog' and scroll down to the end of the current one where you will find 'archive'. Try some of the early ones), you will find that these are vents formed when the CO2 frost on the polar surface sublimes in the Southern Spring. The pressure builds up untill it vents through a surface weakness and the force carves out dust and grit from the layer beneath. If there is wind, the deposits are blown into fan shapes. If not, it falls back to the surface as a blotch around the vent. These are what P4 wants us to mark. Hope this helps ~pete
