It appears to me that there could be some substance spraying from the ground here. maybe some sort of vapor? The wind appears to be blowing mostly from top right to bottom left in this picture. Mostly right to left.

Hi Michael, See my answer on your 'drifting black spots' thread Same answer applies here, but the wind has been changing, so the deposits have fanned out from the vent in different directions. These type of blotches have been nicknamed "starfish blotches". ~pete.
