eruptions in fresh craters

  • eugenius by eugenius

It appears that the eruptions are concentrated in very young craters. Has this been noted before?
If this is correct, perhaps some CO2 pockets were compressed during cratering and now more
easily explode once the temperature on the overburden is high enough. Other ideas?

Hi there eugenius. I think you might be looking at the images with a false idea of lighting and scale. There are very few craters in the images we see here and young craters are quite rare. The circular objects in your image are boulders, lit up on the right hand side because sunlight is coming in from the lower right of the image.
