Opposite fans?

I have a doubt: are there opposite fans?

What a gorgeous picture. Very active spider. Looking at the bottom right corner suggests to me minimal wind from the right, so minimal fans facing left. I'd say it's 'blotching' rather than fanning that you see, but I can see why you posted the question.

tough one. I might say those are blotches since I can't identify a set direction for the dark features.

I've always wondered if blotches sometimes look like fans because of, say, the hole or crack that forms is irregular, and allows the gas and material to be expelled to one side in particular.....is that possible Meg?

I'm not sure. Anya and Michael would the expert on that. But I would presume that the crack could be irregular so that seems plausible. Also the idea is that there is not that much wind when the blotch forms so the material just settles so it may depend on if there is a little wind and what direction as well.
