  Is the regular banding caused by erosion of a surface with bands of hard/soft rock? Or id the whole thing just a huge (very) linear spider type jobbie?

  I like the idea behind your first question and I'm going to take it onboard for the future. My vote here would be for large-scale chain spider jobbies.
