    These look different from the usual spiders - what are they?

    Think they are probably the same thing as the normal spiders but the bottom of the channels are dark and the 'shoulders' of the channels are free of whatever the dark fan/blotch material is... for some reason.

    They do. There are actually lots of different types of spider terrain. A next iteration of the project will ask you to help us sort the images into different types and hopefully we can learn why spider channels form differently in different spots.
