I think that this indicates that different materials have been spewed up, maybe from different depths? It certainly does make them look active, though. I hope your right, because that would be very significant. Here's another guess....maybe the blue stuff is the crystalised remnants of the gas which is powering the guyser, leaving the dark material around it as it falls to earth.......Mars!
Yes, I changed my mind-I think the blue is the remnants of the gas!

the tutorials indicate that blue stuff is ice. most of the blue fans this shape I've seen have blue around the edges, if the blues are plumes then a later image would show a further fan on the ground which isn't there now.
not sure how true the colours work in these images but at home if you had a plume with colloidal particles in it one might expect it to appear blue?Posted
