Dark areas around spiders

  • wassock by wassock moderator

What causes the dark areas around spiders like this? If you view the spiders as raised features with 'dirt' collecting in the valleys between them the image is easy to make sense of. If the spiders are them selves valleys why is the flat land surrounding them so dirty?

very good question. we first discussed the positive/negativeness for the channels here. As the sun comes from the lower left, we believe to see enough evidence, that the channels are indeed negative features. The dust distribution is challenging though. Nice find. This might challenge or further our understanding of our overall model!

If the 'spiders' are subterrainean channels full of expanding gas, they might leak onto the surface and thus transport dirt from below?

@michaelaye - following the link you give in the post above the large image on that page shows a large fan, center bottom, which over lies a spider structure, if this is 'dust' settling out why do the 'spider channels' within the fan remain white
