could these dark patches be carbon dust?

Those are blotches and fans which are deposits of dust and dirt. They are produced by carbon dioxide geysers on the South pole of Mars which lofts the dust on to the top of the carbon dioxide ice sheet in the summer and fall in the Southern hemisphere. We want you to mark these with the blotch and fan tool. You can learn more about what these features are here and here.

I was a able to use the fan tool for the top right dark spot. I used the blotch tool for the bottom left spot. #tools

The fan is clear. Is the other a blotch, a strange fan, or neither?

Others have used the blotch tool for the bottom one. I'd say it was a blotch.

Fan - top right
Blotch - Bottom right

there is a fan in the top right corner and a bloch near the bottom left corner
