  These rounded hills with crumpled edges clustered in fields - what causes this ?

  Those are Martian "spiders" They come in lots of different forms in terms of channels and these central depressions with radial channels emerged. They are carved into the surface of Mars by carbon dioxide gas trapped under the thawing carbon dioxide ice sheet on the south pole of Mars.
