Subsurface structure?

  • SandyG by SandyG

The arc of small fans from bottom left to centre right suggests a subsurface fault. Please can I go to Mars to check it out?

You here see fans expand from linear sources . What happens is that CO2 ice layer that covers all this image gets broken and break lines are rather linear, similar to water ice on Earth, but sometimes also can create something like this curvature in the center. Fans are dust dragged from below the ice to its surface by the gas escaping through the cracks in the ice.

Hi, could you tell me whether you think the ice is still present in this image, i.e. underneath a thin surface layer of red-orange deposits that is visible in this image?
The same question applies to all these red-orange images where some people have referred to them as post-ice residues left behind. To me it looks like the ice is right there. Exciting stuff! looking forward to your answer to this one. Thanks
