Small craters at the fan origins?

Note the circular bright patches at the fan origins - are these craters to strata below? Suggestions?

They are boulders.

They look to regular to be boulders, almost spherical. They seem to be at the source of the dark plume.

I think the other shadows in the picture maybe just that, shadows as they are pointing in opposite direction from the other deposits
