Good question. It's fairly common to see very dark/black areas like that to the left of the light brown patch but don't think I've seen any thing like That. It is well defined against the black with a curving border. Odd

Maybe it is frozen water with mud in it. Thats why it is light brown.

It certainly looks to be sat on top of the general landscape. Last remnants of an ice covering might be an explanation, but muddy frozen water is not, I think, a strong contender. Dusty co2 ice perhaps? Good find, well spotted.

Here's another... APF00012kj. I have spun it and also did a few level edits. The anomaly looks very smooth in places.

That's much better. I'd now suggest that this relates to wassocks 'Fossil Craters' discussion. I think we're talking erosion of the polar layered deposits.
