What to do with large features that are bigger than the image?

For large features like this that appear to be a fan that starts below the image, what should be done when classifying it?

When I see these I try to start a fan, stretch it out to an estimated length (based on the angle of its sides) orient it by direction, and then slide it down so it fits over the visible area. It may not be exact, but it's pretty, pretty, close! You can always slide it back up to tweak the dimensions, and then slide it back down so that the 'fit' is better.

This is definitely a tough one. I'd say there are to fan features on the top of the blotch that I'd mark and then mark the rest of the dark region with the blotch tool.
