really intriguing and i fail to understand what it is exactly that i am seeing?

this image seems to have 3 "blotches" over lapping. Is this shaddow? deposits of iron?

No, these are real dust deposits, not shadows. They are rather fans than blotches though.

a sort of segmented series of fans, but it looks like it's not a fluke as the patches in the corners look to follow this style.

cannot tell whether this is something on top of the ice or whether something has melted the ice and we are seeing the ground underneath?
