Fans in neat lines - cause?

  I'm sure this has been answered before but I can't find the post. Why do some fans occur in neat lines - ie appearing to all start on a line.?

  Also, sometimes these have wide origins. Should we just try to those down the middle with the fan tool?

  The blog has the answer - cracks can form as the frozen CO2 sublimates.
